September favourites

You may have noticed some recent changes to The Fourth Month. I’m now residing at thefourthmonth.blog and pages like Food, Wellbeing and Shopping have returned to the site. In February, I wrote a blog about Changes, where I announced The Fourth Month would focus solely on the publishing industry and books. However, since I made this ‘niche’ for myself, I found myself completely uninspired. So I’ve decided to go back to my roots and The Fourth Month will be a mix and match of anything and everything once again.

In the spirit of embracing chaos, I am starting a monthly ‘favourites’ blog, which will be a list of random products from books and magazines to beauty and candles to delicious foodie treats.

Enjoy x

Breathe & Teen Breathe Magazine

I featured Issue One of Breathe Magazine in a blog last year (August 2016 Home Inspiration) when I first discovered this amazing publication. A year on and they have recently launched their sister magazine, Teen Breathe, which aims to help teens and young adults find a bit of peace and quiet in their hectic, social-media driven lives. The beautiful illustrations and peaceful content of Breathe magazines have resonated with me from day one. A year later and I’m still enjoying every issue. Not only does it look great on your coffee table but it’s bursting with ideas to improve your mental and physical wellbeing. I also think it’s pretty inexpensive as far as luxury magazines go. I recently subscribed so that I never miss an issue – I love it that much!

Rustic bath shelf from Sainsbury’s

IMG_1993.JPG

Face cloths from Asda, candles from Aldi and Wax Lyrical UK, face mask and body scrub from Lush Cosmetics

I’ve been desperate for a bath shelf for AGES. I love running a hot bubble bath after a stressful day and some over-the-bath storage is the perfect addition to a soak in the tub. I picked this up in Sainsbury’s – their homeware selection is gorgeous – and I like to use it to show off my favourite bath time products: some rolled-up face cloths, Lush cosmetics and a couple of gorgeous candles. It’s like my own mini spa. There’s also room for a glass of wine (or two). If you’re on a budget, you can up-cycle an old wooden shelf for the same (if not better) effect.

Aldi Lime, Basil and Mandarin Candle

This Jo Malone dupe is getting ALL THE HYPE lately and I can see why. At £3.99, this supermarket candle will cost you 90% less than the real deal. While I’m not convinced about the ethics behind such a cheap dupe, I can confidently say that this candle smells just like the Jo Malone original and leaves a long-lasting, strong fragrance in the air. It also looks really luxurious and mimics the classic Jo Malone style beautifully. Ultimately, I will probably continue to splash out on a real Jo Malone candle once in a blue moon because you always get what you pay for but this Aldi dupe will definitely keep me going in-between – I’ve already bought three!

Mini lavender pots

I love a bargain! So I was pretty excited when I saw this set of three artificial miniature lavender plants in a cream wire basket reduced to £7 in Tesco. I skipped to the checkout and to my delight, these cuties were reduced even further – to £1.70! I couldn’t believe it. I love seeing these lavender plants perched on my kitchen windowsill every morning. I haven’t seen them in any local Tesco stores since and I can’t find them online but you can get a similar set from Melody Maison for only £8.95.

Try adding a couple of drops of real lavender essence to give some authenticity your artificial plants. Lavender oil has some wonderful healing properties which make it a great bedtime companion.

Lazy Sunday Coffee

Jamie and I recently bought a coffee grinder and French Press from IKEA so that we could enjoy freshly ground coffee in the mornings instead of instant. However, I often find fresh coffee too strong or too bitter but I was pleasantly surprised by Taylor’s of Harrogate’s ‘Lazy Sunday’ coffee. With hints of hazelnut and citrus, these coffee beans don’t claim to be “knock-your-socks-off, drag-you-awake coffee.” Instead, this is “coffee for lie-ins and Sunday papers, for lazy mornings with your feet on the sofa.” If I was a cup of coffee, this is what I would be.

You can buy three bags of Taylors of Harrogate Lazy Sunday Medium Roast Ground Coffee for £8.65 on Amazon.

On the subject of coffee, we’re thinking about getting a proper barista coffee machine for our Christmas this year. Do you have any recommendations or know of any coffee machines we should steer clear of? Let me know in the comments or get in touch on Instagram.

What are you loving this September? The weather is cooling and it’s time to break out the hats and scarves again. Do you have any go-to products for Autumn? Let me know in the comments or on Instagram.

Get Cosy with Candleisima

This is the last time I’ll post homeware inspiration on The Fourth Month now that I have transitioned to only literary and publishing related posts. However, I saved a real good ‘un for last!

Way back in December, in my Christmas ‘Good Gift’ Guide, I mentioned two candles that I would like to try. The first being a Song of the Sea candle from Candleisima. I loved this slick, luxury aesthetic and, as someone who loves to be by the seaside, I was enticed by the idea of a candle scented with juniper, salt and seaweed. I was fortunate enough to get in touch with Szilvia from Candleisima who kindly offered to let me trial a couple of scents. She sent me a small sample of ‘Song of the Sea’, which is as entrancing as I had imagined, and a large ‘Cranberry Bliss’ candle which reminds me of one of my favourite Yankee festive candles.

Candleisima candles are created by hand in small batches ensuring that all candles are of the highest quality with an extra helping of love added to the ingredients. One of the main selling points for me is that their candles are made of natural soy wax with cotton and linen wicks so you can enjoy your candle without any toxins. They use high-quality fragrance oils to help you relax and they are currently experimenting with soy wax and coconut oil to make all natural coconut candles. I am excited to try one of those! Like me, Szilvia is passionate about lovely handmade products with quality ingredients.

‘Song of the Sea’ was my anticipated fragrance and as I write this blog it is burning on my desk. Inspired by British sea shores, it is scented with juniper, salt and seaweed, which leaves my room smelling fresh and piney. As someone who spends a lot of time in front of a computer screen and not getting enough fresh air, this is a real treat. You can buy a small tin for £4.99 or a full-size candle for £9.99.

In contrast to the salty ‘Song of the Sea’, ‘Cranberry Bliss’ is a fruity delight with a hint of cinnamon making it a sweet addition to the home. It was part of the festive range alongside the spicy cinnamon ‘Silent Night’ and the crisp and clean ‘Winter Wonderland.’ These limited edition candles come in a red glass as opposed to the slick black that encases the other candles. I keep a lot of candles in my room but when I come home from a long day this is the only thing I can smell when I walk in the door is ‘Cranberry Bliss.’ It is powerfully scented with natural oils and smells like sweet, juicy cranberry sauce. I haven’t even burned this candle yet so I am super excited to discover how good it smells when I do. I can’t wait to run a hot bubble bath and get this on because I just adore the fragrance. You can still buy one for £10.99 but there are only 20 left in stock so be quick.

Other fragrances I’d love to try out include ‘Orange Choco Chip’; I have yet to own a chocolate scented candle and it’s something I’d like to try in the hope that it helps with some of my indulgent tendencies. Plus, Jamie loves all things chocolate orange so I think he’d really like this burning too. I would also love to get my hands on ‘Citrus Basil Salad’ because I am a huge fan of Jo Malone’s Lime Basil & Mandarin collection and I think they would be pretty similar.

All these candles are made with pure soy wax and cotton-linen wick so they are as natural as possible, with a few splashes of high-quality cosmetics grade fragrance oils for a measure of luxury. Szilvia is continually experimenting with new ingredients and products so I’m excited to see what she comes up with next and I’m sure she’ll go from strength to strength with these gorgeous candles. Every one of them is made in her home by order with her own bare hands and that’s the kind of dedication and heart that I love showcasing in my home.

Check out Candleisima and create a cosy atmosphere for your next reading adventure with one of their candles

August 2016 Home Inspiration

Has another month really gone by? Time flies when you’re having fun, eh? August is over and I’m getting ready to move out of my family home into a student flat in Edinburgh so I’ll be on the hunt for lots of cheap and simple homeware ideas to decorate my new room. Last month I told you all about my favourite Scottish candles in July 2016 Homespiration: Candle Edition and I do have some more candle inspiration for you all in August alongside some other gorgeous goodies. Without further ado, here are my four favourite products from this month:

1. Semi-Skint Milk Money Bottle, £7.99

IMG_3354.JPG

I picked up this cutie from a local gift store, Gift Horse in Troon; I could not resist it when I spied it on the shelf. As a student, I am notoriously bad with my cash so if I can make saving my pennies look pretty then I’m more likely to get involved. This ceramic money box is shaped like a real 0ld-fashioned milk bottle complete with a dairy stamp so it adds a touch of vintage to whichever room you’re showing it off in. Also there’s a plughole at the bottom to retrieve your money so, unlike a lot of money saving pots, you don’t have to smash it to get your savings so you can keep it as long as you want!

Check out Angel House Newport or good ole’ Amazon for your own money saving milk bottle and get saving!

2. Love Scottish Candles, £10.00

img_3320

You can check out my full review on Loving LoveScottishCandles but to cut the long story short: these candles are gorgeous. Their Lavender & Camomile scent is the perfect bed-and-bath-time treat and there are loads more fragrances to choose from. Each candle is unique and has a strong fragrance so every one of your guests will be complimenting the lovely scent when they walk through the door. They come beautifully packaged in little gift boxes and each glass tumbler comes with a special Made With Love stamp.

Grab your own beautiful Love Scottish Candle on their website.

3. Light Box, £9.99

IMG_3109.jpeg

I have been wanting my own lightbox for a while because they just look so pretty in your Instagram pictures. It’s all about the Insta aesthetic after all! So when I saw this in New Look for only a tenner, I had to have it. You can customise your lightbox with a variety of different messages for every occasion and event. I love how versatile it is and it has an amazing vintage Hollywood cinema vibe. You might have already spotted mine in Zina’s Vanity Femme Glow Dust Review.

Unfortunately, New Look don’t seem to be selling their lightboxes online but I recommend you check out their homeware shop right now there were SO many things I wanted to buy. Next time I get paid I will definitely be getting a few goodies from there like this Bronze Hanging Light Bulb. You can buy a similar lightbox here though.

4. Breathe Magazine, £5.99

IMG_4986.jpeg

It’s not exactly homeware but it will look perfect on your coffee table. I just had to share this magazine with you all because I’m in love. It covers a range of amazing topics from wellbeing and mindfulness to creativity and travel. I have been reading it slowly, about an article a night, because I want to savour every last dreamy drop. There are so many hints and tips for living a healthy lifestyle and I’m not just talking about their piece on Top 10 Superfoods! They focus on a healthy mind too and inspire their readers to take up postitive habits like letterwriting, colouring, yoga and meditation. Like I said, it’s one for the coffee table and sharing with all your friends and family.

Check out their website and grab Issue 1 in your nearest quality magazine stockist. I can’t wait for Issue 2 already!

What homeware items are you loving? Autumn is near so it’s time to stock up on cosy candles and fluffy throws. Let me know your fave Autumn must-haves on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.

July 2016 Homespiration: Candle Edition

You will have worked out by now that I am candle daft. What once started as an innocent penchant for Yankee Candle jars has now turned into a fully fledged addiction and this month I have been blessed with the opportunity to try the best that Scottish candles have to offer.

Last month, I pointed you all in the direction of the Poet Range by McKelvie candles but that was just the tip of the handcrafted-Scottish-candle iceberg and now I’m here to share three more amazing companies and some reasons why you need these products on your coffee tables, bookshelves and bedside cabinets.

Mulderie Wood

Tucked away in the Scottish Highlands, Mulderie Wood candles belong to the world of Outlander as they boast the ability to bring Scottish woodlands into your own home. I was lucky enough to try three of their amazing scents: Daffodil, Bergamot and Baby Powder. All three are uniquely wonderful and bring their own sense of nostalgia in different ways. I recommend Mulderie Wood for the countryside lovers among you all. The delicate charm of the quaint tins and ribbon they are packaged in just adds to the feeling of otherworldliness and each candle has a high scent payoff.

Follow Mulderie Wood on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter. Visit their Etsy store or check out my Outlander giveaway on Instagram to win your own Daffodil candle. For more information, read my 5 Reasons To Buy Mulderie Wood candles.

MoBros Candles

I’ve been dying to get my hands on some more MoBros candles ever since my Auntie bought me their Wild Bluebell sampler as a Get Well Soon gift when I broke my leg. I was not let down  by the dreaminess of their Black Pepper and Black Pomegranate fragrances. These candles ooze luxury and class from the richness of their scents to the intricacy of their beautifully designed packaging. I would recommend a MoBros candle as the ultimate pamper-night companion. Run yourself a hot bubble bath and let the warmth of their Black Pepper candle take you away.

Meraki Candles

Pay attention book lovers because these are the candles for you. Inspired by a variety of popular literature from Harry Potter to Outlander to A Court of Thorns and Roses, Meraki Candles has something for everyone. They make the perfect gift and Heather from Meraki Candles is always coming up with new scents and designs to keep things exciting. I’ve tried Outlander inspired Lallybroch and delectably sweet Cookies and Dreams. I can’t wait to get my hands on a Bertie Botts candle too. Just like the magical jelly beans, these candles come in a variety of wild and wonderful scents and you won’t know what you’re getting until it has arrived. The Bertie Botts scents come in 30 possible variations from strawberries and cream, coconut and lime, chocolate orange and coffee, making your candle experience even more exciting. Meraki Candles make the ultimate book reading companion.

Everything You Need To Know About MoBros Candles

Getting to know you

It’s no secret that I’m a candle fanatic and I’ve introduced you all to a few of my favourite Scottish candles already. Each of them brings their own unique qualities to the table; from the quaint and countrified to the literary lovin’, there is a candle for everyone. Now I’m pleased to welcome the decadent and luxurious MoBros Candles to your coffee tables, bookshelves and bubble baths.

MoBros candles came into my life about six weeks ago when I cleverly broke my knee and was stuck in a full leg cast feeling very sorry for myself. To cheer me up, my Auntie bought me one of the MoBros ‘try me’ sized candles in the scent, Wild Bluebell. You can see it in some of my Instagram photos and in my review of To All The Boys I Loved Before. With top notes of crisp green leaves, bluebells and hyacinths and base notes of white musk and amber, it smelled so fresh and delightful; I knew I had to get my hands on some more.

Passing the test

I have a mini checklist when it comes to choosing my candles because as much I would love to try every candle on the market, I do have to keep my addiction in check.

  1. I love handcrafted items because I feel like the quality and the scent payoff is so much higher than mass-produced candles. Despite having the appearance of a large company, MoBros are still hand-making all their candles. Check.
  2. I like ethical and high-quality candles. MoBros candles use pure, European sourced and refined paraffin wax which is the cleanest-burning fuel source possible. They are also a living wage employer. Check.
  3. As a Scottish blogger, I love candles made in Scotland. I think it’s important to support your local economy as tempting as it is to buy everything on Amazon. MoBros candles are manufactured in my favourite city in the world: Glasgow. Check.

Fragrance

So they meet my basic candle criteria, what about the fragrances? MoBros boast a fine selection of luxury scents: Black Pepper, Black Pomegranate, Black Raspberry & Vanilla, Dragon’s Blood, Pink pepper & Green Mandarin, Plum Blossom, Rosewood & Velvet Moss, Wild Bluebell. In addition to the Wild Bluebell sampler, I was lucky enough to try out Black Pepper and Black Pomegranate

Black Pepper is very citrusy with a deliciously masculine black pepper midnote. Despite its name, it’s like fresh cut flowers and very sweet; it is one of the nicest candle fragrances I’ve had the pleasure of smelling in a long time. It reminds me of my favourite Pink Pepperpod collection from Molton Brown.

As for Black Pomegranate, it’s a spicy and fruity candle which boasts plum, pomegranate, and rose top notes with definite musky amber undertones. I recommend this for a cosy night in as it is reminiscent of home-cooking and crackling fireplaces.

Packaging

There are three different options with MoBros candles each with their own perks depending on your own candle desires. Each one is beautifully designed with floral and fruity illustrations in blush pinks, soft lilacs, mossy greens and rich reds. This makes them a perfect gift for a friend.

The ‘Try Me Range’ is perfect for the non-committals among you. If you’re unwilling to part with your cash before trying the scents then you can buy a little sample tin to test drive for only £4.49. I had the Wild Bluebell scent in this size and for a dinky tin, it packs a powerful punch when it comes to scent and can burn for around 25 hours.

The Travel Candles (photographed above) come in tins with a lid which makes them easy to transport – hence the name – so you could pack one for a romantic overnight stay. With approximately 35 hours burning time, you get plenty of ‘bang for your buck’ with these 200ml tins especially at only £7.99. To put you in the picture, the candle giant, Yankee Candles’ small jars cost £8.99 and only give you between 20 to 30 hours of true fragrance enjoyment. So for £1 less you’ll get between 5 to 15 hours more bliss!

The Classic Range is for the more luxurious candle lover and there is no doubt these will look very glam in your living room. They come in dainty glass tumblers and currently have the widest variety of fragrances available on the site. At £14.99, they’re slightly pricier than the travel tins but you get 45 hours +/- of pure candle-y goodness and they’re so bloomin’ pretty too.

Let’s Wrap It Up

Ultimately, if you are looking for a candle that encapsulates style and substance then you really need a MoBros candle in your life. You can save 10% off MoBros Candles with my APRIL10 code.

Why I Love Meraki Candles

UPDATE: SINCE POSTING THIS BLOG IN 2016, MERAKI CANDLES HAVE SADLY CLOSED THEIR STORE.

img_3839

What could be cosier than being tucked up in bed with a good book and candle burning in the background? Well, you could be burning one of these gorgeous candles inspired by literature. By now, you’ll have worked out that I just love candles and especially when they’re handcrafted in Scotland (my favourites include McKelvie and Mulderie Wood candles) but I hit the jackpot when I found the Meraki Candles Instagram page. Not only are these candles made in Scotland, which is really important to me as a Scottish blogger, but they are also book themed!

I’ve drooled over various different literary candles in the past but the majority of them are from the U.S and the shipping is just extortionate. I prayed I would find some bookish candles in Scotland and then Meraki Candles appeared before me. Twenty- year old Heather from Meraki Candles combined her love of reading and candles in these stunning jars of sweet-smelling, book inspired candles. She has candles inspired by Harry Potter, A Court of Thorns & Roses and, my personal favourite, Outlander. Which means no matter what bookish fandom you hail from, there is a candle for you. If you know a big Harry Potter fan, which most of us do, then the Flourish and Blotts candle would make the perfect birthday present for them.

However, as I mentioned it is the Outlander inspired candle that I really love. I’ve only just discovered the world of Outlander and I’m already hooked. I binge watched ten episodes of the show in two days and have already relegated my boyfriend to being the other Scottish Jamie in my life. My obsession with Jamie Fraser is becoming reminiscent of my Edward Cullen phase at age fifteen. Sam Heughan though – unf. I can’t wait to finish writing this blog so I can get my nose stuck in the book to find out what happens next. So the Lallybroch candle from Meraki Candles is the perfect companion when I’m watching the television series or reading the book. Sandalwood myrrh and lavender, this candle is so fresh smelling that you feel like you’re walking through the Scottish Highlands with wild Jamie by your side.

I’ve also been lucky enough to trial Cookies and Dreams which is just the sweetest, most sugary delight. Heather uses the highest possible concentration of fragrance to ensure a huge scent payoff with her candles. The smell is baked cookie and French vanilla; one whiff of this candle and you are transported back to your childhood baking cookies and cupcakes with your granny or whisked away to an old-fashioned French patisserie. If you’ve got a sweet tooth then this is certain to cure your cravings and you don’t need to be a bookworm to enjoy it (or any of the fragrances)

As for the packaging, I was genuinely really impressed by the quality of the Meraki Candles. It’s hard for me to believe that candle-making started as a just-for-fun hobby for Heather a few months ago. They come in petite glass jars which are just dreamy sitting on your bookshelf. A strong attention to detail is evident. With a degree in Computer Design and a passion for art, it is clear that design is at the heart of her products and Heather has spent some time working on new designs to keep her standards as high as ever. I love the colours especially the gorgeous green of my Lallybroch candle.

So they’re bookish, they smell and look great… What’s the catch? Truthfully, there is none. Meraki Candles are made with soy wax which makes them cruelty-free too. They tick all of the boxes on my candle lovin’ checklist and I just want to keep staring at them all day. If, like me, you love candles and you love books then please check out the Meraki Candles Etsy page. You can get 10% off with my FOURTHMONTH10 code which is an absolute steal because their candles are something to cherish!

5 Reasons to Buy Mulderie Wood Candles

IMG_4050.JPG

Mulderie Wood pride themselves in bringing the Highland woodlands into your living room with their stunning handcrafted and eco-friendly candles. Check out my five reasons to buy a Mulderie Wood candle and when you’re done head over the Mulderie Wood shop where you can use my 10% off code FOURTHMONTH10.

1. Their incredible scents.
I am lucky enough to be trialling three of Mulderie Wood‘s amazing fragrances: Daffodil, Bergamot and Baby Powder. Each of these scents is unique and fill your desired room with beautiful smells. I’ve already mentioned how much I hate candles with a low scent payoff but this is not something you can accuse Mulderie Wood of. They use the finest aromatherapy oils and ingredients to create amazing smells. Just lifting the lid, without even burning the wick, seems to fill my bedroom with the sweet smell of baby powder and daffodils. Other scents include apple, sweet bluebell, and cranberry marmalade among many others that you can check out on their page.

2. Their eco-friendliness.
As a vegetarian, I’m all about promoting a cruelty-free lifestyle but I seem to find it so much harder to find ethical beauty and home products than eating a meat-free diet. I made it my mission in 2016 to use only cruelty-free beauty products and candles but it is surprisingly difficult to find the correct information before purchasing. However, Mulderie Wood make it clear that they use EcoSoya wax in all of their candles. This means they are made with 100% pure soy oil. They’re free from pesticides, genetically modified materials, and herbicides. They’re completely cruelty-free and contain no animal products which makes me a very happy candle lover.

3. They are handcrafted in Scotland (with love)
One of my main missions in starting my blog was to promote local Scottish businesses and artists. As a Scottish blogger, I think it’s really important to shed light on the incredible work going on in our country instead of sourcing your products from huge corporate companies. By purchasing from Mulderie Woods, you are not only getting a beautiful scented candle but you’re pushing your money directly into the Scottish economy and in such a troubling economic time I’m sure we can all agree that this is a bonus. Plus, each candle is handcrafted with love and attention to detail – ensuring incredibly high standards every time.

4. Their beautiful, quaint packaging.
It seems a bonus to me when a candle can look great as well as smell wonderful. I love the added touches of the silky tartan ribbon around the tins. There is something incredibly authentic and warming about the silver tins. They look so pretty and dainty sitting on your bedside cabinet or coffee table. If you buy a candle, they come in the most delightful floral jute drawstring bag or if you buy a gift set, they come in a gorgeous gift bag. This makes their candles an excellent gift for a friend or family member.

5. Their reasonable price.
Being a candle lover doesn’t always come cheap. My guilty pleasure has made a serious dent in my bank account over the years but I was so surprised at how reasonable the Mulderie Wood candles are considering how strong the scents are and how much detail goes into their packaging. A small candle which burns for 20+ hours will only set you back £4. For their larger candle which burns for 40+ hours, it will cost you a measly £8! They also offer a gift set of two small tins at £10 which makes a lovely gift. If you prefer a wax melt to a candle, they offer 4 pure soy wax scented melts for £4 in any fragrance you like. To make matters even better, you can use my promo code FOURTHMONTH10 to receive a further 10% off your purchase. Just apply it at the checkout.

You can visit Mulderie Wood on EtsyFacebookTwitter and Instagram.

If you’re still with me and haven’t already headed over to the Etsy page to fill your basket with all these delectable scented candles then thank you for reading my blog. Let me know if you buy one of these amazing products and what you think of them. Keep up to date with my home style ideas on my Instagram page.

June 2016 Homespiration

1. Jane Eyre Quote Framed Print by Bookishly
This stunning framed print was a graduation gift and it is the perfect present for any book lover. It happens to be my favourite quote from my favourite book but even if you haven’t read this Brontë classic it still makes a great addition to your home. Jane Eyre epitomises the strong independent woman and every time you look at this quote you can feel empowered and inspired by her strength. The print comes in a black wooden frame and features a page straight out of the book as the background to the quote. However, if you’re really not a fan of the Brontë sisters, Bookishly also do jewellery, notebooks and greeting cards among other things in a range of different bookish themes. All of their products make an amazing gift for the book lover in your life.

2.  ‘The Poet’ Range by McKelvie Candles
If you have already read my full review on these candles then you will know how much I love them. I cannot get enough of ‘Little White Rose’ and ‘Eriskay Love.’ Not only do they have a high-pay-off fragrance, they also look beautiful on your bookshelf or coffee table and they have a fascinating literary story behind them, which you can read about in my original blog. Ditch your big corporate candle companies and get hours of enjoyment out of a product that is handcrafted with love and steeped in Scottish history. If you’re not a poetry lover, they do other year-round ranges such as Granny’s Kitchen which even boasts a Scottish Tablet candle – yum! Visit their site to find your local stockist.

3. Scottish Quote Mini Hanging Signs & Magnets by Amy Kay Illustration & Design
These little keepsakes are created by a very talented Scottish artist. Each of Amy’s designs are made with a whole lot of love and attention to detail. Not only are they gorgeous and quirky but these mini hanging signs are only £1 each so they make a great addition to any gift. They’re so tiny you could pop them inside a birthday card as a mini surprise for your loved one. They would look super cute hanging on a jewellery stand or pinned up on a notice board. Amy makes a variety of different hanging signs and prints with a range of lovely, inspirational messages to choose from. There is something for everyone from ‘Eat, Sleep, Contour’ signs for make-up junkies to stunning thank you gifts for teachers. Check out her Etsy page here.

4. Patchwork Map Magnetic Journal by Paperchase
I am a stationary geek and I have fallen victim to a Paperchase haul too many a time. It is easily my favourite shop on the high street. Everything is just so pretty. This journal was a gift from two close friends as a 3-in-1 Get Well Soon/Graduation/Leaving Work Gift and I have already decided it is my designated notebook for starting my Masters degree in Publishing in September. This notebook is chunky, luxurious and the beautiful patchwork map design makes it a must-have item for anyone suffering with a case of wanderlust. It would make a beautiful travel journal too if you’re going away this summer.
