April 2018 Favourites

It’s officially been one year since Jamie and I moved into our flat and if you’ve been following The Fourth Month on Instagram you will see I’ve been really interested in interiors over the past 6 months or so. This is partly because I’ve been working in a stunning country and period interiors store, Saks and Hart, since January. And partly because I’ve also been trying to make our rented flat feel more like home.

So most of my favourites for April 2018 are interiors related but I’m hoping to do something bookish shortly since I’ve been reading a bit more lately.

Let me know what you think of my faves this month and I’d love to hear what you’ve purchased recently.

Enjoy x

Rae Dunn artisan collection by Magenta

I’ve been drooling over Rae Dunn pottery on Instagram for a while now. They are just the perfect addition to any farmhouse-style home. They’re so unique and the use of font really appeals to the publisher in me. So on my birthday, when Jamie asked me what I wanted, he was a bit surprised when I said I wanted… bowls. TK Maxx are currently stocking a small amount of Rae Dunn for a very reasonable price. I got my bowls for £3.99 each and my ‘Let’s Eat’ platter for about £12.

Stone jug and eucalyptus

IMG_3058

This is one of my favourite Saks & Hart purchases! It’s a very rustic and traditional style stone jug and I’ve paired it with two stems of artificial eucalyptus. I’m currently filling out our flat with artificial flowers and greenery to give it a vibrant springtime feel. I just think the splash of green makes a home feel more lived in. The jug was only £15 and it’s still available in the Dalgarven, Kilwinning store. You can also get something really similar at Homes Direct 365 and you can get three sprigs of eucalyptus on Amazon for £8.99.

Bobble Bath Mat from Cologne and Cotton

IMG_3257

This bathmat was another Instagram discovery and when I saw it, I knew I had to have it. This adorable little bath mat trimmed with fun bobbles was an ideal addition to my neutral bathroom. It’s 100% pure cotton, fully washable and it feels so soft when you step onto it. Plus it’s only £16, which I thought was a bargain for such a good quality product!

Birchbox UK x Cath Kidston (April 2018)

IMG_3289.JPG

I used to subscribe to Birchbox a while ago but cancelled to save pennies. However, when they announced their Cath Kidston collaboration, there was no way I was missing out. I’m obsessed with Cath Kidston – I have Cath Kidston mugs, socks, a hot water bottle, purse, meal planner… the list goes on. So I had to get this gorgeous Birchbox. I was slightly disappointed because one of my products arrived dirty but I’ve reported this to Birchbox and hopefully it will get sorted. Other than that I was in love. That gorgeous Cath Kidston print and a Cath Kidston hand cream! I also got a lovely brow gel, mini blush, mini highlighter, a make up brush cleaner, free Spectrum brush, and hair volume spray. All for only £12.95 (including postage). I’d say that’s pretty good going.

If you fancy subscribing and trying Birchbox yourself, follow this link and you’ll receive £5 off your first box!*

2017: Most Popular Posts

How on earth is January almost over? I intended to write up a ‘2018 goals’ post but time has escaped me – maybe I still can. As always, a big goal for me is to keep up the momentum on The Fourth Month. I’ve been posting more regularly on The Fourth Month Instagram account so it’s now time to produce more content for the blog.

The Fourth Month journey began back in Summer 2016 when I broke my leg and was relegated to the sofa for about 5 weeks. Since then I’ve focused on books, interiors, wellbeing and general lifestyle posts. Like I did last year, I thought I’d share the top posts of the year to say farewell to 2017 and hullo to 2018.

5. A COURT OF THORNS AND ROSES BY SARAH J MAAS

img_4588

This review of A Court of Thorns and Roses was my first blog post in 2017 and you guys seemed to enjoy reading my thoughts. It was a book that left me feeling torn. I loved some of the characters and the magical world they inhabit but a lot of this story is problematic. Its troublesome Beauty and the Beast tropes (Stockholm Syndrome and sexual violence) made me feel uneasy but Maas created such a rich and exciting world full of powerful and mysterious characters with this series. I’ve yet to read ACOMAF and, at this point, I doubt I will. Check out my review and let me know what you think.

4. A PUBLISHING POSTGRAD UPDATE

The fourth most popular post in 2017 was my publishing postgrad update. It’s one of the few, if not only, personal posts I’ve written for The Fourth Month. This makes me wonder if you would like to see more personal blogs (let me know in the comments or send me a message). Since writing this in April last year, things have changed even more. I left my job at the Publishing Bureau to pursue work as a Library Assistant. Working with books and children is really my dream job! And, of course, I graduated with a Distinction in MSc Publishing in October last year, which was a massive achievement.

3. 10 THINGS YOU SHOULD KNOW BEFORE GOING TO UNIVERSITY

IMG_1297

Guest blogger, Zina, makes two appearances in the Top 5 of 2017. This is a witty and in-depth look at the trials and tribulations of University life. It’s a great read for anyone considering going to University but it also resonates with anyone who is at or has been to Uni. This uplifting list hopefully put a few minds at ease last year and I’m sure it’ll stay relevant every year as new students move on to higher education.

2. INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY: BOOKS BY FIERCE FEMALES

I am so happy that this list of fiercely feminist books made it to the top of my most-viewed posts in 2017. This post was requested by a friend but it has clearly been enjoyed by many readers. The list featured some of my favourite authors from Charlotte Brontë to Jessie Burton. Let me know if you’ve read any of these books or if you would like see more bookish lists on The Fourth Month.

1. VANITY FEMME GLOW DUST REVIEW

img_3515

Stealing the limelight yet again, Zina’s review of Vanity Femme Glow Dust has made the top spot for 2017 (it was also the most viewed blog in 2016). This sparkly review of a cult-classic highlighter gets hits almost every day so I’ve asked my gorgeous make-up artist sister to start writing some make-up reviews in 2018. Follow her on Instagram and subscribe the The Fourth Month to make sure you don’t miss a thing.

Humble Stuff: Cruelty-Free Cleaning

Since I moved to Edinburgh last month, I’ve had to learn to become a real adult – yes, that’s right, I have to do things like washing my own clothes and cooking my own meals. Shocking! My flatmates and I share a cleaning rota to make sure our little flat is shining like a new shilling and this week it was my turn to clean the bathroom which meant I had the chance to use my gorgeous Humble Stuff cleaning products.

I first found out about Humble Stuff on Twitter and I contacted the lovely Marie to find out if they’d be interested in collaborating with The Fourth Month as I am keen to promote cruelty-free homeware just like Wee Tree Soaps: Part 1. Marie was more than happy to get involved and agreed to send me a package of her fantastic products so that I could share their awesomeness with you all!

Humble Stuff is a range of cruelty-free, eco-friendly cleaning products. They’re handmade in Scotland (based in Glasgow) and all their ingredients are fresh and sustainable. I’m struggling to see why they’re called Humble Stuff because these cleaning products are really something to brag about. They’re the UK’s first producer of handmade cleaning products and, with no artificial fragrances or harsh chemicals, they are doing something really amazing for the earth!

It all originated with Marie who has been a self-employed domestic cleaner for over ten years but was fed up of using toxic cleaning products. In search for an alternative, she discovered traditional methods like bicarbonate of soda and vinegar could  be used to clean just about everything. Marie continued to research and experiment with non-toxic cleaning solutions with the support of her clients and eventually took the plunge (pardon the bad toilet pun) and took her cruelty-free cleaning products to Trading Standards. Marie now sells these products at fairs and festivals and has gone on to win the prestigious #SBS award (Small Business Sunday)

I received all three of Marie’s ethical cleaning products in my parcel and I’ve now used them all to clean my new flat. Here’s what I thought:

1. Multi Surface Cleaning Spray, £5

FullSizeRender.jpg

This is the product I will use the most out of the three. Multi surface cleaning sprays are a gal’s best friend; I use it on the kitchen counters, bathroom surfaces and my desk and bedside cabinet. Each spray is handmade with you in mind so you can choose from a variety of beautiful scents: Blood Orange (Limited Edition Halloween scent), Lemon Myrtle, Grapefruit, Lavender, Lime & Eucalyptus or go Fragrance Free. My spray was Lemon Myrtle and I am so pleased with it because I am a sucker for all things lemony. This leaves your surfaces smelling citrusy fresh, which makes a pleasant change from the chemical smells a lot of anti-bac sprays have.

It’s only £5 and you can buy it on Etsy.

2. Soft Cleaning Paste, £5

fullsizerender-1

This soft cleaning paste goes back to traditional cleaning methods as it is made up of sodium bicarbonate and organic Castile soap.  It is tough on grime and dirt so you can use it for greasy kitchen utensils. I used this paste on the shower tiles and bathroom taps and they were sparkling in a few minutes. You simply mix in 1 teaspoon of the paste with 500ml of hot water and use a microfibre cloth to buff whichever surface you’re cleaning. Again, you can choose from a variety of scents so your house will be smelling and looking like paradise in no time. I got Lemon Myrtle and, like the multi-surface spray, it left my bathroom smelling like lemon cheesecake.

It’s £5 too and you can grab a 250g tub on Etsy.

3. Toilet Freshener, £5

FullSizeRender-2.jpg

These sticks were probably my surprising favourite from the bunch – mostly because they require little to no effort on my part. The box contains a minimum of 12 fizzing toilet sticks. You pop one in the toilet, let it fizzle to freshen the bowl, scrub or just flush away. It’s old-school and uses bicarbonate of Soda and citric acid infused with 100% pure essential oils. Choose from Grapefruit & Rosemary, Peppermint, Eucalyptus or Fragrance Free. I got Lavender and Patchouli sticks; the smell is really soothing and if you read my blog you’ll know I’m a big advocate for the use of lavender oil. The best thing about these sticks is that it allows you to clean your toilet without using any stringent chemicals that harm aquatic life once they’re flushed away. Your bathroom will smell amazing without any guilt!

These sticks are also £5 and available on Etsy.

Something to remember: these products are made with fresh ingredients so there is a recommended use-by date. Don’t stick these in the back of the cleaning cupboard and forget about them until next your Spring clean. Get use out of them!

If you’re interested in trying some of these products, Humble Stuff offer a special deal: all 3 products for only £12.

Not only will your house be sparkling clean but by using Humble Stuff you are supporting an environmentally friendly way of living as well as an independent company. Independent and ethical shopping is the way forward so do your bit by ditching the toxins and using Humble Stuff around the house.

Find out more about Humble Stuff on Twitter, Instagram and Facebook. Check out their website and buy their cleaning products on Etsy.

If you’re interested in more ethical products, check out my review of Wee Tree Soaps: Part 1 for vegan-friendly soaps and July 2016 Homespiration: Candle Edition for cruelty-free candles. Keep an eye on my Twitter, Facebook and Instagram pages for regular updates.

Mad Dog, Cheese & Winchin’: Claire Barclay Draws

Claire Barclay combines my love of Scotland, cheese puns and adorable illustrations in one beautiful and colourful online Etsy store.

Claire Barclay Draws epitomises why shopping independent is the best. Nowhere on the high street would you find so many Scottish culture gems, like this Mad Dog 20/20 print,  AND cheese puns, That’ll Brie Nice, all in one place. Through her greetings card, jewellery, tote bags, art prints and bunting, Claire combines nostalgic Scottish banter with vibrant pop culture and the result is magical.

I always smile when I receive my purchases from Claire. She delivers every time with amazing fun products and it’s even reflected through to her packaging! Would highly recommend. – Fay

Claire is animg_3910 illustrator and designer who works solo from her “wee studio” in Glasgow, Scotland. She loves making work based on funny elements of Scottish culture as well as anything else that’s jazzy, colourful or cute! She creates a whole range or products including greetings cards, art prints, tote bags and jewellery all with her quirky doodles on them. Claire also works on custom orders such as family/pet portraits and wedding invitations.

Super cute and super great also the Claire Barclay Draws customer service is amazing and one of the main reasons I will be a returning customer 🙂 – Jamie

I have been lucky enough to get my hands on a bundle of Claire’s incredible designs and I can testify that the products are as adorable in person as they are on your computer screen. I received two awesome A4 prints, a gorgeous tote bag and a “cat lady” brooch.

Art

I’m originally from bonnie Ayrshire but after four years studying at The University of Glasgow, I’m a self-confessed Glasgow wean who is now living in Edinburgh. Claire’s Glasgow Girl designs were just so fitting for me so they were really what drew me in. Claire’s illustrations are personal and you can really engage with them. They’ll have you and your friends giggling with a sense of nostalgia that I don’t think many people are capturing in the same way Claire is.
image-1
Claire managed to combine both my new home and my love of Glasgow in the two art prints I received: Edinburgh Girl and You Can Take The Girl Outta Glasgow, But You Can’t Take Glasgow Out The Girl. These make wonderful gifts for any Edinburgh or Glaswegian gals who want to show off their love of their city or memorabilia for a guest visiting the city for the first time. You can also have these prints personalised to showcase your own home city; I recently spotted a Paisley Girl print on Claire’s on Instagram, which you can buy in the Slug in a Bottle Shop that will be popping up in Paisley soon.
il_570xn-673845272_cxhq
For anyone that grew up in Scotland, there a few special items that will definitely capture your hearts and imaginations. I’m sure many a Scot’s teenage years were spent drinking one of the following: Tennents, Buckfast, Mad Dog, Lambrini, or Frosty Jack’s – which brings back fond memories of shoving my drunk boyfriend into the back of a taxi after he drank a bottle of ‘fabulous Frosty’s’ at a house party in Glasgow. Claire pokes fun of Scottish youth culture with a variety of prints, greetings cards and jewellery.

Fashion

Claire Barclay herself is a bit of a fashionista and self-proclaimed “jazzy outfit enthusiast” so the jewellery and tote bags she offers are just the cutest. I am so in love with my Glasgow Girl tote but, unfortunately, it has met a sad fate in an accidental washing machine fatality. As long as you don’t mix yours in with a hot wash of towels then you are sure to have a gorgeous tote bag with a long life and the ability to get everyone talking and smiling.

I keep my Cat Lady brooch pinned to my Alohomora Design tote and proudly display it at University every day. It is super cute and sturdy and, if nothing else, it sparks that age-old debate: do you prefer cats or dogs? If you are inclined to obsess over our feline friends then you need one of these little pins in your life. Claire’s brooches range from £3.50 to £9 depending on which design you’re looking for and they look awesome pinned to an oversized denim jacket. Other designs include Geeze a WinchGeein’ It Laldi and, for those of you looking for something less Scottish, there’s a motivational Be Happy brooch.

Claire also makes necklaces (like this quirky and colourful Unicorn Necklace) and earrings (my personal favourite: Taps Aff earrings)

August 2016 Home Inspiration

Has another month really gone by? Time flies when you’re having fun, eh? August is over and I’m getting ready to move out of my family home into a student flat in Edinburgh so I’ll be on the hunt for lots of cheap and simple homeware ideas to decorate my new room. Last month I told you all about my favourite Scottish candles in July 2016 Homespiration: Candle Edition and I do have some more candle inspiration for you all in August alongside some other gorgeous goodies. Without further ado, here are my four favourite products from this month:

1. Semi-Skint Milk Money Bottle, £7.99

IMG_3354.JPG

I picked up this cutie from a local gift store, Gift Horse in Troon; I could not resist it when I spied it on the shelf. As a student, I am notoriously bad with my cash so if I can make saving my pennies look pretty then I’m more likely to get involved. This ceramic money box is shaped like a real 0ld-fashioned milk bottle complete with a dairy stamp so it adds a touch of vintage to whichever room you’re showing it off in. Also there’s a plughole at the bottom to retrieve your money so, unlike a lot of money saving pots, you don’t have to smash it to get your savings so you can keep it as long as you want!

Check out Angel House Newport or good ole’ Amazon for your own money saving milk bottle and get saving!

2. Love Scottish Candles, £10.00

img_3320

You can check out my full review on Loving LoveScottishCandles but to cut the long story short: these candles are gorgeous. Their Lavender & Camomile scent is the perfect bed-and-bath-time treat and there are loads more fragrances to choose from. Each candle is unique and has a strong fragrance so every one of your guests will be complimenting the lovely scent when they walk through the door. They come beautifully packaged in little gift boxes and each glass tumbler comes with a special Made With Love stamp.

Grab your own beautiful Love Scottish Candle on their website.

3. Light Box, £9.99

IMG_3109.jpeg

I have been wanting my own lightbox for a while because they just look so pretty in your Instagram pictures. It’s all about the Insta aesthetic after all! So when I saw this in New Look for only a tenner, I had to have it. You can customise your lightbox with a variety of different messages for every occasion and event. I love how versatile it is and it has an amazing vintage Hollywood cinema vibe. You might have already spotted mine in Zina’s Vanity Femme Glow Dust Review.

Unfortunately, New Look don’t seem to be selling their lightboxes online but I recommend you check out their homeware shop right now there were SO many things I wanted to buy. Next time I get paid I will definitely be getting a few goodies from there like this Bronze Hanging Light Bulb. You can buy a similar lightbox here though.

4. Breathe Magazine, £5.99

IMG_4986.jpeg

It’s not exactly homeware but it will look perfect on your coffee table. I just had to share this magazine with you all because I’m in love. It covers a range of amazing topics from wellbeing and mindfulness to creativity and travel. I have been reading it slowly, about an article a night, because I want to savour every last dreamy drop. There are so many hints and tips for living a healthy lifestyle and I’m not just talking about their piece on Top 10 Superfoods! They focus on a healthy mind too and inspire their readers to take up postitive habits like letterwriting, colouring, yoga and meditation. Like I said, it’s one for the coffee table and sharing with all your friends and family.

Check out their website and grab Issue 1 in your nearest quality magazine stockist. I can’t wait for Issue 2 already!

What homeware items are you loving? Autumn is near so it’s time to stock up on cosy candles and fluffy throws. Let me know your fave Autumn must-haves on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.

Loving LoveScottishCandles

It’s been a while since I’ve introduced you all to a new candle. Autumn is coming which means it is time to invest in knitwear and cosy candles to get you through the colder weather. LoveScottishCandles is the latest on my homeware must-have list and here’s why…

1000x400.jpg

Based in Hawick in the Scottish borders, LoveScottishCandles is proof that Scotland are making the best candles you can buy. As their name and quaint labels suggest, their products are crafted with a lot of love. Attention to detail is high and lighting one of these cuties will give you the warm-and-fuzzy feeling that we long for as Autumn approaches.  They smell wonderful, come in a range of fragrances from country to luxury and are beautifully packaged.

What beautiful candles! The fragrances are all devine and last for ages, I can smell them even when they’re not lit. Burn time is great too. I get lots of compliments when I have guests round, they all ask where I got them from. Great little purchase.

LoveScottishCandles not only offer a gorgeous selection of candles but they have been posting updates of their current self-build on their social media sites so follow them on the links at the bottom to get some DIY inspiration, photos of Scottish landscapes and behind-the-scenes making of their candles. Their social media pages add a touch of personal to every purchase; I love knowing where and who my products are coming from. Too often we buy into nameless and faceless corporations and where is the fun in that?

Wow! What can I say other than these candles are a must! They are amazing, the fragrance’s are fabulous and linger when they’re not even lit, you walk into the room and you can smell the fragrance. A hard day at work , light one of these in the bathroom have a long bath , have another one in the living room and Wow totally relaxed and stress free. I can’t get enough of these its like the saying “a woman can never have enough pairs of shoes” well you can never have enough of these candles. Enjoy.

If you’re into floral scents, there’s Scottish Rose and Tiger Lily. If you like those muskier tones, what about Black Pomegranate or Fireside? Having a dinner party? Try burning Apple Strudel & Spice to welcome your guests to the smell of fresh baking. The fragrances have a high pay-off and you can smell it before you even open the gift box, which means all your guests will be complimenting you on the delectable scents. Browse the shop to check out all eight of the LoveScottishCandles’ scents.

I received the Lavender & Chamomile candle as a gift from LoveScottishCandles and I can’t get enough of the scent. I mentioned it in my recent 5 Tips For A Better Sleep blog because lavender and chamomile are both renowned for their relaxing properties which help to relieve anxiety. That means this fragrance is the ultimate snooze-inducing candle. Run yourself a hot bubble bath and light one of these before bedtime. You’ll forget all about your tough day at work.

The LoveScottishCandles website also shares with its customer insightful Candle Care instructions. This is a big thing for me. So many people complain about candles for not burning evenly or producing too much black smoke when, in reality, this could be prevented by looking after their candles properly. There is no point in investing in such gorgeous candles without keeping them in good condition. I am always getting on at my mum for not caring for her candles properly! Here’s a few of LoveScottishCandles top tips to getting the most from your candles:

  1. Do not burn candles for more than 4 hours at a time.
  2. When burning for the first time, burn for long enough that all the wax melts to the edge.
  3. Keep wick trimmed to 1/4 inch at all times.

There is a reason LoveScottishCandles boast Handmade With Love on all of their candles. They are a delight and will add a special touch to your homes when burning. They’re inexpensive and their wonderful packaging makes them a wonderful gift for a loved one or a special treat for yourself.

Follow LoveScottishCandles on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram for regular candle and DIY updates or browse their shop now.

July 2016 Homespiration: Candle Edition

You will have worked out by now that I am candle daft. What once started as an innocent penchant for Yankee Candle jars has now turned into a fully fledged addiction and this month I have been blessed with the opportunity to try the best that Scottish candles have to offer.

Last month, I pointed you all in the direction of the Poet Range by McKelvie candles but that was just the tip of the handcrafted-Scottish-candle iceberg and now I’m here to share three more amazing companies and some reasons why you need these products on your coffee tables, bookshelves and bedside cabinets.

Mulderie Wood

Tucked away in the Scottish Highlands, Mulderie Wood candles belong to the world of Outlander as they boast the ability to bring Scottish woodlands into your own home. I was lucky enough to try three of their amazing scents: Daffodil, Bergamot and Baby Powder. All three are uniquely wonderful and bring their own sense of nostalgia in different ways. I recommend Mulderie Wood for the countryside lovers among you all. The delicate charm of the quaint tins and ribbon they are packaged in just adds to the feeling of otherworldliness and each candle has a high scent payoff.

Follow Mulderie Wood on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter. Visit their Etsy store or check out my Outlander giveaway on Instagram to win your own Daffodil candle. For more information, read my 5 Reasons To Buy Mulderie Wood candles.

MoBros Candles

I’ve been dying to get my hands on some more MoBros candles ever since my Auntie bought me their Wild Bluebell sampler as a Get Well Soon gift when I broke my leg. I was not let down  by the dreaminess of their Black Pepper and Black Pomegranate fragrances. These candles ooze luxury and class from the richness of their scents to the intricacy of their beautifully designed packaging. I would recommend a MoBros candle as the ultimate pamper-night companion. Run yourself a hot bubble bath and let the warmth of their Black Pepper candle take you away.

Follow MoBros Candles on Facebook and Instagram or visit their website. Get 10% off all UK purchases by entering APRIL10 code at checkout. For more information, read my Everything You Need To Know About MoBros Candles blog.

Meraki Candles

Pay attention book lovers because these are the candles for you. Inspired by a variety of popular literature from Harry Potter to Outlander to A Court of Thorns and Roses, Meraki Candles has something for everyone. They make the perfect gift and Heather from Meraki Candles is always coming up with new scents and designs to keep things exciting. I’ve tried Outlander inspired Lallybroch and delectably sweet Cookies and Dreams. I can’t wait to get my hands on a Bertie Botts candle too. Just like the magical jelly beans, these candles come in a variety of wild and wonderful scents and you won’t know what you’re getting until it has arrived. The Bertie Botts scents come in 30 possible variations from strawberries and cream, coconut and lime, chocolate orange and coffee, making your candle experience even more exciting. Meraki Candles make the ultimate book reading companion.

Everything You Need To Know About MoBros Candles

Getting to know you

It’s no secret that I’m a candle fanatic and I’ve introduced you all to a few of my favourite Scottish candles already. Each of them brings their own unique qualities to the table; from the quaint and countrified to the literary lovin’, there is a candle for everyone. Now I’m pleased to welcome the decadent and luxurious MoBros Candles to your coffee tables, bookshelves and bubble baths.

MoBros candles came into my life about six weeks ago when I cleverly broke my knee and was stuck in a full leg cast feeling very sorry for myself. To cheer me up, my Auntie bought me one of the MoBros ‘try me’ sized candles in the scent, Wild Bluebell. You can see it in some of my Instagram photos and in my review of To All The Boys I Loved Before. With top notes of crisp green leaves, bluebells and hyacinths and base notes of white musk and amber, it smelled so fresh and delightful; I knew I had to get my hands on some more.

Passing the test

I have a mini checklist when it comes to choosing my candles because as much I would love to try every candle on the market, I do have to keep my addiction in check.

  1. I love handcrafted items because I feel like the quality and the scent payoff is so much higher than mass-produced candles. Despite having the appearance of a large company, MoBros are still hand-making all their candles. Check.
  2. I like ethical and high-quality candles. MoBros candles use pure, European sourced and refined paraffin wax which is the cleanest-burning fuel source possible. They are also a living wage employer. Check.
  3. As a Scottish blogger, I love candles made in Scotland. I think it’s important to support your local economy as tempting as it is to buy everything on Amazon. MoBros candles are manufactured in my favourite city in the world: Glasgow. Check.

13754199_563234800515075_4037361551021864967_n

Fragrance

So they meet my basic candle criteria, what about the fragrances? MoBros boast a fine selection of luxury scents: Black Pepper, Black Pomegranate, Black Raspberry & Vanilla, Dragon’s Blood, Pink pepper & Green Mandarin, Plum Blossom, Rosewood & Velvet Moss, Wild Bluebell. In addition to the Wild Bluebell sampler, I was lucky enough to try out Black Pepper and Black Pomegranate

Black Pepper is very citrusy with a deliciously masculine black pepper midnote. Despite its name, it’s like fresh cut flowers and very sweet; it is one of the nicest candle fragrances I’ve had the pleasure of smelling in a long time. It reminds me of my favourite Pink Pepperpod collection from Molton Brown.

As for Black Pomegranate, it’s a spicy and fruity candle which boasts plum, pomegranate, and rose top notes with definite musky amber undertones. I recommend this for a cosy night in as it is reminiscent of home-cooking and crackling fireplaces.

Packaging

There are three different options with MoBros candles each with their own perks depending on your own candle desires. Each one is beautifully designed with floral and fruity illustrations in blush pinks, soft lilacs, mossy greens and rich reds. This makes them a perfect gift for a friend.

The ‘Try Me Range’ is perfect for the non-committals among you. If you’re unwilling to part with your cash before trying the scents then you can buy a little sample tin to test drive for only £4.49. I had the Wild Bluebell scent in this size and for a dinky tin, it packs a powerful punch when it comes to scent and can burn for around 25 hours.

The Travel Candles (photographed above) come in tins with a lid which makes them easy to transport – hence the name – so you could pack one for a romantic overnight stay. With approximately 35 hours burning time, you get plenty of ‘bang for your buck’ with these 200ml tins especially at only £7.99. To put you in the picture, the candle giant, Yankee Candles’ small jars cost £8.99 and only give you between 20 to 30 hours of true fragrance enjoyment. So for £1 less you’ll get between 5 to 15 hours more bliss!

The Classic Range is for the more luxurious candle lover and there is no doubt these will look very glam in your living room. They come in dainty glass tumblers and currently have the widest variety of fragrances available on the site. At £14.99, they’re slightly pricier than the travel tins but you get 45 hours +/- of pure candle-y goodness and they’re so bloomin’ pretty too.
